The mosaic of Poseidon and the nymph Amymone [mosaic 3]
The mosaic which decorated the floor of the triclinium of an elaborate roman private house (Villa ) is depicting the myth of Poseidon and the nymph Amymone at Lerna Spring . The mythological scene is developing in two narrative scenes. On the left the nymph is being attacked by a satyr. On the right Poseidon is reaching and helping the rescued nymph. A different panel depicts a cock fight and implies a lover’s quarrel.
